Can’t wait for the new Big Thief album to come out “Capacity” so I bought the RSD 7″ to hold me over….

Big Thief Mythological Beauty, 7″ vinyl

Had to get this Live recording of Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam.  This was one of my favorite release of 2016, “I Had A Dream That You Were Mine“.

Hamilton Leithauser+Rostam

I did buy a whole bunch of of other records at my local favorite, “Bart’s Record Shop“, local independent record store.  I’ll blog more in the next couple of days about that loot.

Skinny Love Live @ 1st Bank Center Broomfield

It’s not a bad recording.  Just exported it from a .mov to an audio file.

The concert was super.  I Really love the maturing of Justin Vernon as an artist.  A friend of mine (who shall remain nameless) knew Justin while traveling in their early 20’s.  She/he 🙂 said they just couldn’t connect to 22, A Million.  My reaction….  “this is an artist exploring, experimenting and maturing.  I really love this album and listen to a couple time a week.  Then I put on Blood Bank and love it just as much”.

Live music lifts my spirit.  It takes me away to places I could never go to without it.  I truly “live in the moment” while at a concert.

Desert Island 5 Albums

@girlieaction and Miss Angst texted me today that they were all compiling their “Desert Island Albums”.  Here’s my rational for my picks…

Ever since I bought “When the Devil’s Loose” on vinyl I can’t stop listening to it.  A.A. Bondy makes me think of so many other artists; Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, Justin Townes Earle and many more.  I get to sing all their songs in my head just from this one masterpiece.

The Bach Cello Suites Unaccompanied by Yo-Yo Ma is spectacular.  It is three albums worth of Back Masterpieces play unaccompanied by a legend.  It brings out so many different emotions through the cello which is one of my favorite instruments.  Right up there with the accordion.  You just found out one of my guilty little pleasures, I love the accordion and one day I will buy one and learn how to play it.

Uncle Tupelo’s Anodyne defines Alt Country/Garage Country (or whatever you want to call it).  From Acuff-Rose to Anodyne there’s not a weak song on this album.  It goes down on my list as one of those almost “perfect” recordings.

David Bowie’s final album, Black Star is mesmerizing.  Bowie throws all convention away with this epic album.  Intertwining so many different melodies, beats and genre’s Bowie completely makes my brain explode with each and every song.  I really would have loved to see him perform this music live.

I simply can’t get enough of Elliot Smith’s either/or.  It is melancholy.  It is insightful.  It is my favorite album right now.  I listen to it and listen to it and listen to it.  I still find different sounds or chord progressions or thoughts each time.  What more could you ask for out of a recording?

I have three honorable mentions or backups….  New Order – Power Corruption and Lies, Radiohead – OK Computer, Depeche Mode – Violator.  They speak for themselves.

Super Fly

SuperFly

This is an original pressing from 1972 Buddah Records in great shape.  I can’t stop listening to this, what a great soundtrack.  Curtis Mayfield is the man.  Pusherman is a funk masterpiece.  I’m gonna have to watch the movie, don’t think I’ve even seen the entire picture.  Rainy day in Boulder must mean I’m gonna listen to a bunch of ’70’s funk and soul.
